With the time skip into Jesus’ adulthood, we arrive at the declaration of Jesus as “beloved.” The miraculous and the mundane run right into each other, announcing a battle of powers that will end in execution and resurrection — but here, we see that God is very clearly saying things are going to change. We, too, are invited into the next leg of the story of Jesus the Christ, letting ourselves be changed by it all over again.
