December 24, 2023 – Our Stories, Our Gifts: Word and World

Over the four weekends of Advent, we’ll be looking at how each of the four gospel writers approach telling the Advent story. No two versions are the same. So, why did Mark only focus on John the Baptist while Matthew tells of the angel’s visit to Joseph? What did each gospel writer prioritize and why? Finally, what can we learn from how they wrote the greatest story ever told?

John’s version of the birth of Christ doesn’t look much like a birth at all, so how are we supposed to see Christmas in it? As we finish our series on the gospels’ storytelling, we come to the latest and last of the four and recognize that God’s birth into humanity is so much bigger than a manger, a stable, or even our favorite carols.
