Creative Adventures in Holy Troublemaking
Reflecting together
In February 2025 FUMC held a half-day retreat to delve deeper into the Holy Troublemakers and Unconventional Saints worship series. Participants ignited their creative spirits, relaxed, and reflected together, all fueled by the spirit of holy troublemaking.

Activities & art supplies
Deacon Cora Glass led the retreatants through activities designed to be meditative and foster creativity. This included exploring a historical saint, unleashing creativity with a variety of art supplies and finding space for quiet contemplation.

Creative inspiration
The workshop focused on poet Mary Oliver. An excerpt of Oliver’s poem “Sometimes” was used in a lectio divina style for creative inspiration.
Later I was in a field full of sunflowers.
I was feeling the head of midsummer.
I was thinking of the sweet, electric
drowse of creation,
when it began to break.
In the west, clouds gathered.
Thunderheads.
In an hour the sky was filled with them.
In an hour the sky was filled
with the sweetness of rain and the blast of lightning.
Followed by the deep bells of thunder.
Water from the heavens! Electricity from the source!
Both of them mad to create something!
The lighting brighter than any flower.
The thunder without a drowsy bone in its body.
