Habitat Build 2024
Enabling home ownership for families
Through Good News Group in association with Habitat for Humanity of Huron Valley, FUMC carries out a mission each summer to enable home ownership for families who would otherwise not have this opportunity. In the summer of 2024, FUMC worked along with 13 other churches to renovate a home in Ypsilanti and provide financial support through donations.
Work & lunch crews
FUMC provided work and lunch crews for five days. The construction crew worked on a variety of projects including erecting roof trusses, painting, and installing baseboards. The lunch crew prepared and delivered food to the worksite. Not only did the team work on this year’s house, but they helped at three other sites where they revisited previous Habitat houses to help with updates.
Providing safety, security and stability
In addition to volunteering, the team raised $12,000 for construction materials and down payment support. The donation of time and money lowers the sale price of the house which in turn allows the new homeowner to have a manageable down payment and lower mortgage payments. Owning a home provides safety, security and financial stability for the family.
